An ASL student writes:
Hi Dr. Bill!
I didn't want to do much research on this sign because I didn't
want to see inappropriate things...but from the bit of research I did I didn't
find anything. What's the sign for the concept of "suggestive" or "sleazy,"
etc.? Not planning to use the sign, whatever it is but wanted to be aware if it
existed.
Thanks! Have a great night.
- Molly
Dear Molly,
There are ways to express the concept of sleazy but the concept
itself is variable. So here are some ways to approach it but this is certainly
not an exhaustive list:
That's twisted / sick in the head: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGs9cljdt3o?
That's sick! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4u4AXrtni4?
Corrupted: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwlzDqQyhjY
The sign for DIRTY is sometimes used to mean more than just
"dirt." It can be metaphorical: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3BygEHQ-Ps?
The sign for PORN: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ToFPrbGL8o?
You could also do the sign for APPROPRIATE while shaking your
head negatively: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwmaT9wYrbg?
You could also modify the sign for SUGGEST-[offer] by doing it
with a suggestive facial expression (mouth slightly open, tongue visible, head
tilted a bit to the side) and a yes/no facial expression (eyebrows up).
