NUTRIA: Is there an American Sign Language (ASL) sign for "nutria," "coypu," or "coipu?"

 

Question:
A student writes:  "How can we sign Nutria in ASL?  Or do we fingerspell it?"
 

Answer:
I did a decent amount of searching and could not find any credible signs for "nutria." (No signs out there whatsoever for nutria -- so far in my search.)
Your best bet for a sign for Nutria would be to check for any South American - based sign language websites and see what any Deaf South American people are using as their sign for "nutria."

Field notes / update: 11/30/2020:  I asked the Lifeprint.ASLU Facebook group if any of them know a non-ASL sign language that has a sign for nutria or coypu.
