American Sign Language: "Classifier X" (CL:X)



The "X" handshape can be used to represent (the class of) objects that are skinny, long, and curved or bent.

Examples:

Person walking stooped over

Banana laying on a table

Curls in hair
 



CL:closed-X
A closed-X is typically used to show the holding and/or use of very small objects.

Examples:
Poking something with a needle
Slicing something with a razor blade
Pulling a hair
 


 CL:modified-X
A modified-X is typically used to show the holding and/or use of keys or cards such as credit cards.
