claw-3: The American Sign Language (ASL) claw-3 handshape:

Notes:

Claw-3 is a handshape.

Whether or not claw-3 functions as a classifier depends on its usage.

If the claw-3 handshape is used for depiction we can usually label it as a classifier.

Not all claw-3 handshape signs are classifiers. For example, the sign for the number "300" has a version that includes a claw-3 handshape -- but it isn't a classifier.

It is just a "sign."

The sign glossed (labeled) as "CHANNEL" (probably) started as a classifier, then it lexicalized into a sign.

Claw-3 has versions:

Claw-3-ball -- is what most people consider to be "claw-3."

Claw-3-open -- Used in the sign BUG.

Claw-3-open-contracted -- Used in the last part of catch (a relatively small) ball.

Claw-3-contracted -- Sometimes shows up in high speed fingerspelled combinations of "V" & "E" -- Example: Christmas Eve.

However, for now lets just lump all those versions into the main term: claw-3.

CL-claw-3: bump on the head or elsewhere

CL-claw-3: small crawling critter (such as a sand crab)

CL-claw-3: small headlamp

CL-claw-3: crack open an egg

CL-claw-3: doorknob-(small)-(depiction)

CL-claw-3: doorknob-(small)-(open-door)-(depiction)

CL-claw-3: eyeball (depiction)

CL-claw-3: lens of a camera (depiction)

CL-claw-3: martial arts depiction of jump to kick

CL-claw-3: martial arts depictive stance

CL-claw-3: talons of a bird

CL-claw-3: throw ball or round item

CL-claw-3: tripod-footed robot walking or standing

CL-claw-3: turn a small knob

CL-claw-3: turning a small lid or cap

CL-claw-3: turning of a combination lock (depiction)

CL-claw-3: relatively smaller object placement

Next lets show some signs that probably evolved from claw-3 classifiers
If you just use these as signs they are not classifiers but you can often unfreeze them into classifiers:

basketball
bong
bowling
champ
channel (some misuse this to mean Canvas LMS)
climb
combination lock
devil (and related synonyms)
If you add a mischievous facial expression devil can mean mischievous
hawk
headphones-(small)
injection
invest, investing, stocks
lid or cap (small)
listen (ear)
listen (eye)

mirroring: Mirroring is when a second signer (or interpreter) closely replicates or "mirrors" the signing of someone else in order to relay the signing to one or more people who cannot see or cannot clearly see the original signer or main interpreter.

mouse (computer)
reception (the listen sign can be done in combination with various equipment to indicate "receiving a signal")
selfish
snack
spasms going up the body (Has synonyms that start with the letter "C" and "O").
stocks
virus

What other claw-3 signs (either classifiers or just regular signs) might we want to add to this list?
