Teaching ASL:

About half way through the semester you need to have your students sit in circle.  You go around the circle and have them spell the name of the student on their right.

In college classes most level 1 and 2 students are pretty good at spelling their own name, but some still struggle to spell the name of their neighbors.

At the beginning of class as the students come in I post an overhead or write a message on the board telling the students to make sure they know the name of their neighbors.  Then during the activity they are able to spell it to me.

This not only helps them practice their fingerspelling, but it provides a way for them to get to know each other better. Plus it helps me learn their names.
