ADCA: (Sac State ASL CLUB)
We encourage all students to also follow the instructions found at https://orgsync.com/communities/sacramento-state to become official club members and have access to our sac state only club site. We have already begun to post pictures, events, resources and information on this site, which was released to sac state clubs just last week. In the next 2 weeks we will be adding a lot of content to the orgsync site and we look forward to seeing you and your students signed up as members and supporters of the club.We want to make you aware that we have a few big events coming up this semester;
September 13 Keith Wann @ Sac State
· Keith will instruct 2 workshops. The first is for all levels of signers (ASL 1 and up) and the second is for more advanced signers (ASL 4 and up). After the workshops he will perform a comedy show. More information is available on our web sites and flyers are posted on our bulletin boards. This kicks off Deaf Awareness Week for Sacramento.
September 21 -- Swedish Sign Language Film with English Subtitles.
· "Music Is Not Everything", A Deaf Swedish film shown in Swedish Sign Language
with English subtitles. Rated PG-13. This is being offered at sac state by ADCA and CAD.
November 1st Signing Christmas Songs Workshop by "A Show Of Hands"
· All level of signers are welcome from ASL 1 and up, we make it clear to students this is not a Deaf social or a cultural event but a fun workshop where they learn a little about glossing and how to transfer English song verses into Manual ASL. While songs are not really a part of Deaf culture this is an opportunity for students to become more aware of the transition from English to ASL.
November 11 -- Fremont Open House
· If we can sell enough T-shirts, and tickets for workshops in September (Keith Wann) and November 1st (song workshop) the club would like to hire a bus and give sac state students an opportunity to attend the Fremont school for the deaf open house. We will not know if this is possible until the end of October so keep an eye out for updates. (you can support this goal by encouraging your students to attend club events)
Many other events will be posted and updated on the web sites and bulletin boards.
We would also like to request that each instructor send us a picture of you (portrait or snapshot is fine). We are proud of our instructors and would like to sponsor a gallery of our instructors on our site to honor your hard work. Photo’s can be mailed to ADCAatCSUS@yahoo.com.
If any instructors are interested in holding a Saturday workshop for our students please contact the ADCA so that we can work out the details and provide more opportunities for students.
TUTORS / STUDY GROUP ~ We encourage those seeking a tutor to post their request on the club forums, also those wishing to tutor. The benefits of tutoring while not necessarily monetary, to strengthen the skills of both the tutor and tutee which is why the ADCA encourages the opportunity. We will once again ask that the department allow us to use 307G one lunch hour per week (more on that TBA) as a "study hall" where students can come and study together for a lunch time study group.
MEET AND GREET LUNCH ~ These will be lunch meetings where students will be encouraged to come eat lunch with Deaf Studies Instructors, our hope is that students will get to know their future instructors and have the opportunity to catch up with past / current instructors on a social level. More information and details TBA, just be aware we will be contacting you to ask if you would like to participate.
TSHIRTS ~ the club started selling t-shirts at the end of last semester and will continue to do so as a fund raiser, any student or staff wishing to purchase a t-shirt need only contact the club at ADCAatCSUS@yahoo.com or mail / drop off their order & payment to:
