Deaf Culture: "Ethnicity"

Courtney Franklin
4/3/08

ETHNICITY:  When a group of people reveals, or is perceived to reveal, shared historical experiences as a  unique organizational, behavioral and cultural characteristics. (Aguirre,2004)

In my opinion, this definition, which I strongly agree with, allows those people who identify with Deaf Culture to claim their own ethnicity.

Ethnic identity is marked by the recognition from others of a group's distinctiveness and by common cultural, linguistic, religious, behavioral or biological traits. Source: Wikipedia "Ethnic group" 2008
