American Sign Language:  "rather"

The sign for "rather" also means "prefer" or "preference."
Touch the fingertips to your chest -- a bit to your dominant side.  But don't lay your whole hand on your chest just the backside of your four fingers. Then pull your hand outward and to the side while changing it into an "A" handshape.

RATHER / PREFER (version)

Here is a view from an angle so you can more clearly see the handshapes in the sign "RATHER / PREFER."

Notes:

This sign is related to the signs BETTER and BEST.  Also, it is important to know that many people just use the sign FAVORITE when they mean "prefer."
